If you like being on the edge of your seat, if you like the occasional mind trip, if you like scary, suspenseful, creepy stuff.....whether you're a guy or a gal, "Pretty Little Liars" is for you. And there are hot guys and hot girls of all ages to go around as the parents of the main teens in the show are also involved. I don't think everyone realizes just exactly what "Pretty Little Liars" is when advertised as it comes across to some as just a teen chick show.
The show is one giant mystery about a villain who goes by the alias of "A" (3 seasons later and we still have no idea who she or he is) terrorizing 4 girls who were the friends of a girl named Alison. She was missing at the start of the show, and supposedly found dead later. Alison was one who was kind of a huge bitch to everyone in town so "A" could really be anyone and is taking out all their issues with Alison on the 4 girls, Spencer, Emily, Aria and Hannah.
I had to blog about it now because it goes right along with my excitement for Fall. The show keeps up the mystery and creep factor all year long actually, because ABC Family breaks each season up into two parts, the Summer season and the Winter season, but for the last 3 years, this series has also added a special Halloween episode that airs in October. The preview for the episode coming up this October aired last night, it's going to be 2 hours and it looks GREAT. Here's the promo to give you an idea of how fun the Halloween specials can be and of course, the characters are always in costume...
I'm so excited! I love that this show can only add to my Halloween joy.
The show's been on for awhile now so I'm not going to get into every detail, and FYI, it IS a show where you'll have to start from the beginning, so if you haven't seen it at all yet, GO GET THE SEASON 1 DVDS!
"Pretty Little Liars" is great because there have been masquerades, horrific train rides, creepy masks, a few murders, body bags, creepy dolls, costumes, blackmail, and so SO many twists and turns....the list can go on and on. I'm the type of person who can usually predict say the ending of a movie etc, but with "Pretty Little Liars", the story can take you in circles, exciting circles that you never bore of but because of this, part of me tries to figure it all out and part of me makes sure to simply sit back and enjoy the ride.
This face is usually always seen in the Halloween episodes. That mask definitely ain't for the faint of heart.
There was also a web only series which aired after the mid season 3 finale called "Pretty Dirty Secrets" and took place solely in a Halloween store and you can get a kick out of all the secrets and clues that can go on in that simple Halloween store. The web-series aired up til the Halloween Special of 2012.
The writers of the show are even big Hitchcock fans and there are many little nuances and themes of Hitchcock. The main cafe in the show is called the Rear Window Cafe and each season and Halloween Episode has it's own theme to it and it goes like this:
Season 1 - Vertigo
Season 2 - Psycho
Halloween Special - ?, not sure on this one as it is a flashback and reveals how dead girl Alison may have gotten involved with "A."
Season 3 - North By Northwest
Halloween Special - The Lady Vanishes
Season 4 - The Birds
Each Halloween episode also makes sure to heighten the creep factor and reveals more clues to the audience, and of course also creates more questions. The special episodes are so much fun and always such a tease as we have to wait til the winter season starts back up to see where we go from there.
And along with the airing of this special Halloween episode, is ABC Family's new show, "Ravenswood!" A Pretty Little Liars spin-off that looks like it'll add even more to this madness!
