How I'm celebrating Stranger Things season 3....

2 nights ago I finished re-watching the first 2 seasons of Stranger Things and fell in love with it all over again. I love the show because it's like Goonies meets Eerie Indiana meets X-Files meets Are You Afraid of the Dark meets Goosebumps etc etc etc. It's an adventure with the right amount of spooky but not so horrific for nightmares.

I also love the show because most of the adults don't simply tell the kids they're crazy and fluff them off, they can be skeptical but listen with an open mind and become a part of the crazy. RIP Bob Newby....

The FINAL trailer for Stranger Things season 3 released and omg, the Upside Down speaks! You can watch the video here: Stranger Things Final Season 3 Trailer

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!

So with all of that said, I obviously plan to celebrate the premiere all week long, and here's how:

Music

One great thing about this show is the music and you have options; sweet rockin' 80's and electronic/syfy/atmospheric type tunes and you can psych up your mood by jamming all week to these sweet themes! Season 3's soundtrack won't release until the 5th of July but there are 4 other official soundtrack albums to choose from! I personally have the Volumes 1 & 2 soundtracks, as well as the Various Artist compilation from the show, so I will be listening to them in the car all week driving to and from work, but if you don't want to drop some serious coin on all of these albums right now, Spotify has most all of the tunes if you search Stranger Things.

Decorations

I saw this beach towel at Target and couldn't resist. I will let my freak flag fly and hang my spooky independence!

Table Setting

You will be eating this week and on whatever day you watch the season 3 premiere, and guess what?! Stranger Things plates and napkins and even a table cover exist! I bought some at Target and you can also find them at Amazon!

Breakfast

If you've watched the show you know Eggo waffles play a big part; so of course I'm going to be eatin' some waffles this week. Eggo has been promoting an 80's style box of waffles, I have yet to find it but I did write to the company asking how I can obtain one and here was the response:

"Starting June 24 KFR members can buy a limited edition box for 500 points. Only 1500 boxes are available - Available only until supplies last. After the order is placed, it will take up to 8 weeks for delivery. These are empty flat boxes and do not include any waffles inside.

Starting July 1 Retro boxes with Eggo Waffles inside will be available at grocery stores nation wide.  Only a limited number were produced with the retro box. The retro box is a one-time run, just for fun. Hunt for them at stores near you.

Boxes of waffles are also available through Amazon Fresh - a limited time offer and available while supplies last.

Additional information can be found at https://www.leggomyeggo.com/en_US/11.html

Eggo will be taking over at the NYC Café on July 6.  Retro Eggo recipes will be available at the NYC Café"

With that information I found that Amazon Fresh doesn't deliver to my area and I'd have to dig up receipts for rewards points (but that rewards box doesn't have the Eggos inside anyway). So I've decided if I don't find one of the 80's themed boxes, I'll just get some Eggo's anyway.

Fun side note, make sure to check out Eggo Waffles' instagram to see their latest bloody billboard promotion for the show, if you live in a town called Hawkins anywhere in the US, you've got a nifty easter egg to go find.

Outfit

Of course I have a shirt for the occasion! I was very drawn to the H&M Stranger Things shirt that used demogorgon heads to look like tropical flowers, I couldn't help myself. If you want to go grab yourself a shirt or any accessories to wear for the premiere, you can find many different styles at H&M, Target, WalMart, Rue21, Forever 21, Spencers, Coca-Cola, Hot Topic and Box Lunch. Try searching their online stock first, not all have appeared in stores.

Beverages

Coca-Cola partnered with Stranger Things to bring back New Coke and also offered up two ST logo printed glass bottles in a bundle pack for $19.99. I grabbed one because I was curious about New Coke and if you sign up you get a 15% coupon, plus it has free shipping. It comes to you in a fun Stranger Things themed cardboard box that reads "One Summer Can Change Everything."

But if you don't want to wait on shipping or pay the 20 bucks, there are regular Coke and Coke Zero cans popping up at Dollar Trees, 7-elevens and gas stations. Coca-Cola has been promoting the cans at Wal-Mart and Target shows them in their app, but they haven't shown up in any stores around me yet, I've even kindly asked employees to check their stock. I was able to find the regular Coke can at a gas station, but that darn Zero can has the coolest picture. Definitely a treasure hunt of sorts.

Cocktails are all around the web, simply Google "Stranger Things cocktail recipes" and you will find a LOT to weed through. Many bloggers have released their own spin on maple drinks to garnish with Eggo Waffles but I wanted and hoped to find something more spooky......and then I found this Upside Down cocktail recipe by FancyAsF*** that literally looked amazing!
I did tweak it to my taste though. It calls for Ouza which I hadn't had before and it was too licoricey for me. As Ouza is known to turn cloudy I thought it was needed for the spooky effect but I think the blackberry juice used still works just fine. The recipe also calls for vodka and I prefer rum so I got a white/clear rum and it tasted great with the blackberries that create the dark forms and red coloring. I think my drink turned out pretty spooktacular! Totally looks like a Mind Flayer up top!

Dessert

Baskin Robbins has so many options for Stranger Things dessert it's crazy. They've got Demogorgon Sundaes, Polar Pizzas that look like the holiday lights at House Byers, Elevonade Freezes, have started to offer ice cream cakes with ST promo art printed on them and starting July, will offer a sundae that will be seen in Stranger Things Season 3 called the USS Butterscotch! They've also released 4 pints (pictured below the pizza) at Target with ST imagery.

I ordered a Polar Pizza for Thursday! The picture shows the pizza before and after I added the letters with icing. I don't live close to a Baskin Robbins, so my m&ms shells apparently melted a bit on the way home, I will pretend they are glowing lights with the way the color ran off lol. My letters could be better but I'd lacerated my thumb last week.

The yellow colored USS Butterscotch below is a pre-packed pint offered in the Baskin Robbins freezer in store. They're REALLY focusing on promoting this flavor up with those pre-packed containers, one offered in the Target pints and having it as the flavor of the month for July. I wonder if it'll be a big deal in the show.

If you're sitting and reading and thinking I'm crazy with all this ice cream....FYI I had ordered the Polar Pizza BEFORE Target announced the lil pints, and I'm OBVIOUSLY not going to eat them all in one day. I'm just having fun stocking up the spooky and will savor the flavors in time.

If you can't have dairy, might I suggest more Eggos topped with your add-on of choosing? Chocolate? Fruit? Non-dairy whipped cream?

Having a Party?

My celebration plans got a bit cancelled when I lacerated my thumb last week, I was going to take a trip and visit a friend in another state, so I will be having a Stranger Things Party for 1, which by the way, for anyone else that is by themselves on the day, IT IS TOTALLY OK to be solo and celebrate. If we can't have fun with ourselves, who can we have fun with? But back to the gathering question, I just found these Star Court Mall bags (the mall that seems to be popping up on a lot of merch and in trailers, guessing it'll be a local hot spot in the season) at my local Jewel-Osco Grocery Store in the card section, they are small enough to make great goody bags! I LOVE putting together loot bags!

And if you need a loot bag item idea, I found out that It's Sugar has some Stranger Things candies on their site and in stores (call ahead).

So....in conclusion, this is how I'm getting ready for the Season 3 premiere of Stranger Things...

SO EXCITED
