Halloween during COVID-19. The "Halloween is Cancelled" worry.

I've seen many memes and posts and worries that Halloween 2020 will be "cancelled", it's such a finite word, cancelled.
I understand that group gatherings are a big part of the holiday, but unfortunately this year (and hopefully only this year) is going to be a little different. So what to do to celebrate Halloween when festivals, theme park events, hay rides, haunted houses and trick-r-treating (probably) are cancelled?
  • Pumpkin patches/farms will most likely be open with social distancing and masks. Especially since garden centers are currently open.
  • Video call parties where everyone wears a costume.
  • Halloween Hunting (shopping) as stores are open.
  • Carving a pumpkin.
  • Decorating
  • Cooking or baking spooky themed recipes.
  • Watching spooky movies and tv shows.
  • Sending Halloween cards.
  • Wear a costume. Even if it's just for yourself. Take a picture and post it on social media.
  • Reading spooky stories.
  • Telling spooky stories with friends on a video call.
  • Meet up with our friends at an open park, sit in a circle and tell stories. Dress in costume even.
  • Make a Fall or Halloween themed craft.
  • Netflix spooky movie/tv show watch parties
  • Listen to spooky themed music at home, in the car, at work and keep the mood alive. Here is my SpookySprinkles Spotify playlist to check out.

Another idea to think about....even if you're with just yourself or a couple of close family due to covid-19 on or around Halloween....go to the party store or wherever Halloween table dressings are sold; buy yourself Halloween themed plates, cups, napkins, a table cloth etc. And even if it's just you enjoying it, that's ok, COMPLETELY OK, and it's such a simple thing, but it can really help your Halloween mood. Use them all season long.

The big debate......Trick-R-Treating
Trick R Treating will most likely get cancelled in many states if not all, and in my opinoin it's probably the one activity that can be made socially distant.
1. Stay with your party. Everyone wears a mask.
2. Stand 6ft behind the group in front of you getting candy.
3. If handing out the candy, wear a mask. Only candy or treats in a sealed wrapper may be handed out.  Also leaving the bowl outside as some do would also work.

Another idea that's been making the rounds is that kids dress up and stand in their front yards while cars drive around and throw candy, why not do this? Parades throw candy all the time. Costumes will get to be shown off and as long as the candy is in a wrapper, it should be good to go. Maybe there can be some sort of participation marker or signage that houses can put in their front lawn to let cars know which houses want candy and which don't.
**We would definitely have to worry about wild animals eating the candy, so again, signage and kids in lawns.**

October isn't here yet, so we shall see what happens.

And to end, here's SpookyLittleHalloween's blog post with a few more ideas on how to celebrate the hell out of Halloween 2020.
